In Commemoration.....

Commemoration of service and sacrifice is an important part of what we do. Each year we work to ensure we provide the Manly Lota community with commemorative events that help keep these memories alive.

ANZAC Day
On the 25th of April, we commemorate ANZAC Day on the anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli in 1915 during World War I.

Our ANZAC Day commemorative service goes beyond this. It is the day where we remember all Australians who served in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

Our day begins with a 4:15am Dawn Service followed by a community gunfire breakfast. Then at 8:00am a family friendly service including a parade involving local schools and the community.

Afterwards veterans and their families are invited back to the hall for a lunch and ANZAC Day drinks.

Vietnam Veterans Day
On the 18th of August, we commemorate Vietnam Veterans' Day on the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan in 1966.

We remember the sacrifice of those who died and say thank you to the almost 60,000 Australians who served during the 10 years of our involvement in the Vietnam War.

Manly Lota RSL Sub-branch is honored to have a number of Vietnam Veterans and family members of Vietnam Veterans as members.

With the names of the five locals
who fell during this conflict listed on the Manly memorial this creates a strong connection to this day.

Remembrance Day
On the 11th of November we commemorate the Armistice of 1918 that ended fighting in World War I.

People in Australia and many other countries observe one minute's silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month because that's when the Armistice came into effect.

It is now a day when we acknowledge those who have died or suffered while serving in wars, conflicts and peace operations.

It's a time to honour all personnel who died or suffered in the service of Australia.

Poppy Service
The Manly-Lota Sub-Branch can provide a Poppy Service as part of a veteran's funeral as a moving tribute to a veteran who has passed away.

As part of a Poppy Service, an RSL representative can:
  • deliver a eulogy detailing the veteran's service
  • recite the ode
  • sound the Last post and the Rouse
  • provide poppies for mourners to place in recognition of the veteran's service.
Any person who served in the Australian Defence Force can be honoured with a Poppy Service.  The service is provided free of charge.

If you would like to arrange a Poppy Service contact the Sub-Branch on (07) 3348 2572 or email us at  [email protected]
